Contains correspondence between Montana Lisle Reese and two notable people with South Dakota connections: Hamlin Garland and Gutzon Borglum. Also included are newspaper clippings and photographs.

Biographical / Historical
Montana Lisle Reese (1910-2005) was a native of Montana, moving to South Dakota as a child with his family. He attended the University of South Dakota and went on to direct the South Dakota Federal Writers' Project in 1935. Fifteen guide books were published as part of the project. Reese authored the book, "South Dakota: A Guide to the State."
