Biographical Note
The Mount Rushmore National Memorial Commission was created by President Calvin Coolidge. Originally, President Coolidge chose just ten members, to allow the up-and-coming President Herbert Hoover to fil the other too spots. While President Hoover filled the remaining two spots in the Commission, Hoover did not meet with the Commission until confronted by Congressman Williamson. With the absence of President Hoover from the Commission, funding could not be acquired before the projected start date of construction. Sculpture, John Borglum sought out the President in D.C. Soon after, President Hoover got together with the Commission and set the ball rolling. The Mount Rushmore National Memorial Commission organized funding for the construction of Mount Rushmore.
