Biographical Note
In the mid-1980s a group of Lead citizens formed GOLD Unlimited (Greater Old Lead-Deadwood), a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing a museum dedicated to the mining history of the Black Hills. GOLD Unlimited joined with the Lead City Fine Arts Association in 1986 and their fundraising efforts lead to the opening of the Black Hills Mining Museum later that year. Fundraising efforts continued and by the following year the museum, located in a former grocery store, had been significantly improved. By 1988 the 7,000 square foot basement had been renovated to resemble a mine with displays of miners at work throughout history. The museum is located at: 323 W. Main St. Lead SD, 57785. More information on the museum can be found at: http://blackhillsminingmuseum.com/.
